The Top Ten Warning Signs That You Have Outgrown Peachtree and QuickBooks:

#10 You need the purchase history of your customer available when they call to place an order or get a quote:

If you get up and go to the file to find out what your customer has purchased in the past, you may have outgrown your entry level software. As your customer base increases, you need to know what they bought and what they paid for it when they call for a quote or to place an order. With
Sage MAS 90, Sage MAS 200 and Sage MAS 500, you have complete history in the order entry screen with a click of the mouse!

#9 You need Government Contracting and DCAA compliancy:

Peachtree and QuickBooks have limited job cost and project costing capabilities. No Government billing forms (DD250 or 1034) are in the system and it is difficult to track CLIN numbers and tasks within jobs. With the next level of software, you can encompass most of the external spreadsheets you may be producing outside the system without additional data entry. Project tracking, labor pools and rates tied to the job or task can be handled with the mid-market Sage MAS 90 and Sage MAS 200 product.

#8 You need multiple accounting periods open at one time:

Has it become cumbersome to close and then reopen periods if you want to post to a previous or future period? If you continue to pay bills or bill customers even if you have not closed your month and need to post to both periods, you may have outgrown your entry level product. With Sage MAS 90, Sage MAS 200 and Sage MAS 500, you can have numerous General Ledger periods open at a time or close them to prevent prior period postings.

#7 You need manufacturing capabilities:

Peachtree and QuickBooks have no true manufacturing capabilities. The manufacturing versions of these software products add additional reports that help manufacturers through the transition. If you need capacity planning, shop floor control, made to order tracking or MRP, it is time to look at the next level of products.

#6 You need service call tracking:

Although there are some add-on products to the entry level software for service, most are separate packages that do an AR or GL dump into your accounting software. With the MAS product lines, service is truly integrated into all areas of the software. For example, a move up to MAS 90 with service will give you a dispatch board, call tracking, billing, inventory by truck, utilization reports and much more. Payroll and inventory are also integrated so time and material can be entered once and updated to all modules as needed.

#5 You have 3 or more users:
Entry level products like Peachtree or QuickBooks are designed for limited access over a network. Although both have released multi-user versions, they slow down the system and have limited access for each user. Often, all users have to get out of the company they are working with to post certain transactions. When you move up to the mid-market products, true multi-user functionality allows nearly all functions to work while other users are in the system. Speed does not degrade when multiple users are in the same system either.
#4 You need multiple warehouses:

Peachtree and QuickBooks software are entry level and only have the ability to track one warehouse per company. When moving to the next level of software, including Sage MAS 90, Sage MAS 200, Sage MAS 500 and Sage BusinessWorks, you can track multiple warehouses. You can have different areas of your warehouse be a separate area or your service and installation trucks be their own warehouse. Physical counts become more efficient. This is often the next step in software for a growing distribution or service company.

#3 You need more than two years history in your General Ledger:

Peachtree software is designed to keep only two years of GL history. As companies grow, this could become problematic if you want to produce growth trend reports or comparative year financials. When you move up to the next level of software, many years of history can be kept.

#2 Your system is performing slowly:

Peachtree and QuickBooks are designed for small businesses with limited data and transaction history. Once you get over 75MB, you will begin to see a significant speed degradation in your system. This is a big sign that it is time for a more “grown up” software package. Data corruption and loss frequently occurs once speed begins to reduce. A good test is to run an aging report to the screen and see how long it takes to actually complete the process of running the report. If it is longer than 15 or 20 seconds, you may want to check your data size.

#1 You need better inventory:

Peachtree and QuickBooks have entry level inventory capabilities. If you need bar coding, multi-warehouse tracking, more than ten price levels, customer specific pricing or calculation of safety stock levels, it is time to start looking at the next level of software.
